We are saddened to learn of the death of David Gilmour, one of our most dedicated supporters in the United States. David, pictured above between Christopher Bunting (Chair, Awareness Foundation America and one of our Trustees) and The Revd Nadim Nassar (Director of the Awareness Foundation), died peacefully on Monday 15th August 2016 at his home.
David heard Nadim speak at his own church, St.John's church in Ross, during Nadim's first visit to San Francisco, and he was soon devoting much of his almost limitless energy to building Awareness Foundation America West, an 'offshoot' of Awareness Foundation America concentrating on raising the profile of the Awareness Foundation on America's West Coast. David and a small group of our friends, including Nancy and Douglas Wolcott, worked hard to prepare for Nadim's subsequent visits to California, arranging speaking dates at the University of Berkeley and all of the theological colleges and seminaries in the Bay Area and beyond. David even took Nadim all the way to Los Angeles for meetings at the Cathedral there. This did much to spread our message and to raise funds for our work, especially with displaced children in Syria.
Sadly, David's health declined and in time he was forced to step down as President of Awareness Foundation America West. After a brave battle with cancer, David passed away this month. We shall miss him. David was a man of great integrity and courage, a most constant friend and a bright light of hope and faith.
Our work in California continues apace, but it will not be the same without David.
